Brief Description:
This course is designed to provide the participants with an understanding of the principles of digital image processing, image visualization, image transmission, storage and compression standards. The course examines all the major imaging modalities that are currently used in biomedical imaging, and explores the usage of picture communications networks (PACS) in integrated health care information system. 

Course Objectives and Outcome:
The course will provide students with hands-on experience in digital image processing and visualization procedures using tools and technologies for 2-D and 3-D still and video image representations, manipulation, rendering of images and picture communications networks (PACS). As such a research project, a selected digital image processing methodology with application in engineering and biomedical sciences will be studied, examined reported and discussed.

After attending the course, participants will be able write software for processing and analyzing 2-D and 3-D digital images with emphasis on algorithm design, implementation and performance evaluation. Industry standard Language – JAVA will be used for applications development.
